The long-awaited upgrade of the N4 carriageway between Mullingar and Longford is finally advancing, thanks to its approval in the Government’s expanded National Development Plan.
The Cabinet’s decision, backed by €2.5 million in new funding, brings fresh hope for improved safety on the busy 52-kilometre route, which handles over 17,500 vehicles daily and has been notorious for accidents and outdated design.
Minister Peter Burke TD underscored that modernising this vital roadway is essential for local families, commuters, and business growth.
Mullingar is also seeing a construction boom.
Westmeath County Council is planning a state-of-the-art Regional Sports Complex at Blackhall Place, with pools, sports halls, and landscaped public areas.
Large-scale housing projects by Andrews Construction Limited and Glenveagh Homes are bringing hundreds of new homes, fresh green spaces, and childcare facilities.
Together, these projects mark an exciting transformation, boosting Mullingar’s livability and economic prospects.
